Farmers’ Market 10.30.10

I finally returned to the South of the James Market! It was a cold Fall morning and my scarf came out for the first time this season, along with my big brown boots. Kyle and I stomped through the market, clutching steaming hot cups of local coffee, and remarked how different everything looked since the last time we were there. It was a lot less crowded and many of the canines in attendance were sporting sweaters or Halloween costumes. There was an abundance of winter squash and large bushels of apples replaced the crates of peaches that had lined the stall tables the last time we visited.

Here is a rundown of this week’s loot. I think I was making up for lost time!

  • Escarole (first time!)
  • Kohlrabi (first time!)
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Red potatoes
  • Apples
  • Butternut squash
  • Acorn squash
  • Heirloom tomatoes (nice surprise!)
  • Bombolini black pepper linguine
  • Figs (first time!)

I can’t wait to get in the kitchen tomorrow! I am even planning on taking it easy with the Halloween festivities tonight just so I can be ready to cook and do household chores tomorrow. A bye week for the Ravens means uninterrupted time on Sunday to make a dent in the To Do list. I plan on tricking out my new bike and treating myself to some time in the kitchen.
